After a nice Canada Day/4th of July long weekend the ToB Crew are back at it. The news didn't take a vacation so there's a ton to cover. Starting with movie news the guys discuss the major shakeup with the Han Solo movie, the future of the MCU, Wonder Woman's tremendous box office success and much more. On the TV front it seems like there's a never ending rumour mill of possible adaptations and reboots. This time it's HBO possibly adapting Watchmen, a live action Jetsons series from Robert Zemeckis and Kevin Bacon talking a Tremors reboot. Finally in gaming news Nintendo announced the Super NES Classic Edition and Julian and Dan debate the merits of removing the "Game Over" screen from Super Mario Odyssey. Movies
- Feels like we have to do this much too often these days but we have to start this episode by mentioning that Adam West has passed away at 88 years of age.
- Phil Lord and Chris Millar have been fired from the Han Solo Star Wars standalone film and replaced by Ron Howard.
- Top Gun 2 now has an official name: Top Gun: Maverick.
- The Jurassic World sequel also has an official title: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
- According to Kevin Feige the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will mark the official start of the MCU’s “Phase 4”. He also mentioned that the sequel would feature a different supporting character ala Iron Man in Homecoming as well as a villain who has not yet appeared on the big screen.
- According to The Hollywood Reporter the Venom movie, starring Tom Hardy, will reportedly feature Carnage as the villain.
- In an effort to clear up some rumours about Tom Holland appearing in these Sony spin-off movies or if they’re apart of the MCU, IGN spoke to Amy Pascal, a producer on both Homecoming and Venom and got a pretty clear cut answer.
- Deadline is reporting that Sam Jackson will make his return as Nick Fury in the Captain Marvel film.
- Fox just announced release dates for 6 Marvel movies through 2021. None of the release dates have any official titles but we can safely assume that one will be Deadpool 3, another likely being X-Force and one maybe being the long gestating Gabit film.
- Speaking of X-Men, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Jessica Chastain is apparently in talks to play Shi’ar empress Lilandra as the villain of X-Men: Dark Phoenix. THR also noted that Fox has inked all the main stars to new deals with Mcavoy, Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence , Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters all set to return.
- Danny Elfman, the man behind 1989 Batman, will be scoring Justice League.
- Blade Runner turns 35
- Netflix is introducing some "choose your own adventure" style movies. Starting with some movies aimed at children.
- Wonder Woman has been a major success at the box office. It recently passed Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel to take the top spot for highest grossing film in the DCEU.
- In an interview with Variety, Geoff Johns confirmed that Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins would officially be back to direct the sequel and that they are already hard at work on the script.
TV
- The cast of Syfy's Battlestar Galactica, along with series executive producer/showrunner Ron Moore, reunited for a Q&A panel at the Austin Television Festival this past weekend and addressed the question "What was the Cylons' plan?".
- Rick and Morty creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon have announced that the new episodes of the long awaited third season will premiere on Adult Swim starting Sunday, July 30.
- Damon Lindelof (Leftovers, Lost) is reportedly working with HBO on an adaptation of Watchmen.
- Warner Bros. is looking to bring back The Jetsons as a live action TV show with Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future) attached as executive producer.
- It's being reported that non-other than last year's Best Supporting actor Mahershala Ali is in talks with HBO to star in True Detective S3.
- CBS has announced the release date for Star Trek: Discovery. It will launch on Sunday September 24th on CBS. It will then move to their streaming service “CBS All Access” with new episodes hitting every Sunday to following. Also, the first season is coming in two halves. The first 8 episodes will air through November 5th, with the last seven starting in January.
- Syfy Channel is looking to reboot the 1990 film Tremors as a TV series and have been talking with Kevin Bacon about reprising his role from the original film.
Games
- Hearthstone is getting an expansion called Knights of the Frozen Throne and will introduce 135 new cards. The game also recently passed 70 million players.
- PSVR has now sold over 1 million units.
- Ubisoft has confirmed that its pirate game Skull and Bones will in fact have a single player campaign.
- Atari is back in the hardware market. It will reportedly be called the Ataribox. There is very little information at this time but looks like it’ll feature some kind of wood grain design.
- EA and Bioware confirmed that there is no planned single player DLC for Mass Effect: Andromeda.
- At E3 it was announced that Playerunknown's Battlegrounds would be coming “exclusively” to Xbox One. Well since then it's also been announced that the game has sold 4 million copies over its 3 months on sale on PC and that it's technically not an Xbox exclusive, opening the door for the possibility of a PS4 port.
- Nintendo announced the Super NES Classic Edition. It will be released on September 29th at $79.99 USD and feature 21 titles. The full list of games is as follows:
